2015 Owego Free Academy Senior – Anya

At The Camera’s Eye, I love working with sporty seniors! We can get some striking shots by incorporating their athletic interests into their senior session. Anya, a senior from Owego Free Academy, was willing to jump into the pool so we could show off her love for swimming!

TheCamerasEye1

Anya has been swimming with the same group of girls since they were all very young, and they’ve traveled to state championships nearly every year. I even had the pleasure of meeting one of Anya’s teammates, who helped her get her knee skin on for our shoot. If you’re NOT a a swimmer – well, let me just say that the whole process is a fiasco, and hysterical to hear about. It took the two of them about 15 minutes to squeeze her into it, and THAT was record timing.

TheCamera'sEye1

In addition to the swimming shots, Anya was intent on getting a few senior photos with sunflowers. Anya’s family is Ukrainian, and sunflowers are big in the Ukraine. We searched high and low until we found the right spot!

TheCamerasEye21

Anya just looks like she belongs in the outdoors! Love her range of outfits – I guess the knee skin counts as an outfit in this case? 🙂  We went with a mix of outfits – simpler outfits, more outgoing outfits, and even a traditional Ukrainian top.

I also love this quiet black-and-white photo…simply pensive and poised.

Good luck to Anya with everything her final year at OFA will bring, both in and out of the pool!

Wedding Floral Arrangements with Tioga Gardens

Anyone who has spent even a little bit of time on Pinterest knows that it is full of eager wedding planners! I think that second in popularity to photos of “The Dress” are photos of “The Bouquet” and “The Flowers.” These photos, however, wouldn’t be possible without a great florist like Tioga Gardens behind the scenes!

In the past, Tioga Gardens has created stunning arrangements for me to display at vendor shows. Check out these delicate and detailed finished products:

2015 Owego Free Academy Senior – Coco

Working with seniors at The Camera’s Eye, I learn all sorts of important tidbits about my clients. For starters, Coco’s name is NOT actually Coco. She couldn’t help but pick the name up as a kid when her mother’s European friend would refer to her as “Miss Coco Chanel” in a thick and glamorous accent. And who *wouldn’t* jump on the chance for that nickname?

TheCamera'sEye18

Shooting with Coco was a blast – she is all energy and has a really playful personality. I love it because she’s JUST like me – a big kid! Before Coco’s senior session, we collaborated over Pinterest, and she shared her ideas for these unique tennis shots:

Coco is obviously very sporty, but she also has a soft and gentle look:

TheCamera'sEye9

Love it when we can hit all sorts of styles in one senior session 🙂 Best of luck to Miss Coco Chanel in her final year at OFA!

2015 Athens High School Senior – Chloe

The Camera’s Eye recently had the pleasure of shooting a senior session with Chloe, a 2015 senior from Athens High School.

TheCamera'sEye26

Chloe was an absolute treat to work with! She’s quiet and composed, but she took direction like she had been working in front of a camera for years. Maybe it’s not just a coincidence that she could be a double for Brooke Shields? 🙂

TheCamera'sEye27

I really admire this ability to be comfortable and work the camera. Even though I’m a professional photographer, it’s not something I know how to do myself…my place is pretty squarely BEHIND the camera!

TheCamera'sEye28

Miss Chloe is an EXCELLENT example of how to accessorize for senior photos. She’s really into fashion, especially scarves. Notice the little touches of jewelry in each shot! Plus, as we mentioned in a previous post, the patterns in her outfits give her photos some personal flair, without being visually overwhelming.

TheCamera'sEye25

Best of luck to Chloe from The Camera’s Eye as she embarks on her senior year!

2015 Owego Free Academy Senior – Megan

Meet Megan, a 2015 senior at Owego Free Academy who had a recent senior session with The Camera’s Eye! We got some great shots in a variety of fun outdoor locales.

TheCamerasEye7

Hard to believe this girl is a tough-as-nails soccer goalie – she’s as easygoing and down-to-earth as can be!

TheCamerasEye6

Plus, I LOVE the outfits Megan chose for her senior session. Everything is both casual and stylish – and check out the range of tones and colors!

TheCamerasEye5

I’m looking forward to meeting even more seniors at The Camera’s Eye as the summer starts to wind to a close. Stay tuned – soon we’ll be sharing some more tips about senior photos, including how to choose your all-important yearbook photo!

2015 Owego Free Academy Senior – Mary

I get to meet all sorts of high school seniors when it comes to senior portrait sessions at The Camera’s Eye. This includes seniors who are shy, those who aren’t sure what to wear, or those who are a little nervous when it comes to their first professional photography session. However…Mary, a 2015 senior from Owego Free Academy, definitely does NOT fall into any of these categories!

TheCamera'sEye02

In addition to being a cheerleader, Mary is a total free spirit and loves having her picture taken – she’s been dying to get her senior photos done ever since she was a freshman. She really took to our outdoor settings and loved spending time posing in the flowers!

TheCamerasEye13

One of the reasons this senior session was so much fun was because Mary completely enjoyed being herself. As for senior style: To make sure her outfits matched her personality, Mary chose relatively casual clothes, both dresses and other outfits. She is a self-described “outdoorsy girl” with just “a hint of someone who loves to dress fancy.”

TheCamerasEye12

I think that her smile and the butterflies on her shirt say it all 🙂  Mary – thanks for letting The Camera’s Eye capture your senior session, and good luck in your senior year at OFA!

Back to the Garden: The Camera’s Eye and VINES

With all the things to love about summer in the Southern Tier, one of my favorites has to be gardening. I have 13 (!) of my own garden plots at home and, despite a constant war with slugs, deer, and other foes, I love cultivating my own vegetables and flowers! That’s why I was so excited to learn more about VINES, a community gardening and education group in the city of Binghamton. My social media manager has a VINES garden plot, and invited me to a Saturday morning “work party” so I could learn more.

 Vines004

The work party was at the Corbett Avenue garden in Binghamton’s south side, a site that’s been going strong for five years now. Members sign up to rent a plot for the season at a garden location of their choosing. The raised beds are already built and the soil is already cultivated – all that’s left to do is start growing!

Vines017 (1)

Dick Andrus, a professor at Binghamton University, manages the site. He gave me the grand tour before the everyone arrived, starting with a spot of particular pride – the newly developed compost pile.

Vines044

As I chatted with members and wandered between the beds to snap photos, it was clear that the name “VINES” was more than appropriate. There were vines EVERYWHERE!

Vines013

Vines047

Yes, some of them were weeds, which the garden members were taking to task….

Vines063 Vines031

Vines042

…but many hinted at deliciousness yet to come!

Vines026 Vines039 Vines049

Vines030

Even though the program is well established – and obviously popular…look at the turnout at 9 am on a Saturday to pull weeds! – it was a nice reminder that improvement, growth, and change is always possible. The group added a long-awaited official VINES sign to the front gate while I was there.

Vines003

VINES does a lot more than just provide gardening space for its members. At their Urban Farm, volunteers grow food that goes out to farm share subscribers. It’s also available for sale at the weekly Binghamton farmer’s market (9-2 on Fridays in downtown Binghamton).

Vines007

In addition, VINES hosts numerous events and workshops that anyone in the community can attend for free. Upcoming events include “Season Extension on a Budget” on August 16th, “Freezing Vegetables” on August 20th, and a “Lemonade in the Garden” social event at Corbett Avenue on August 27th.

Vines002

A big thank you to VINES for all the work they do for the community, and for letting The Camera’s Eye shoot some wonderful summer images!

2015 Owego Free Academy Senior – Nicole

At The Camera’s Eye, we love turning out a successful senior portrait session! When everything’s clicking in a senior session, you just feel it. Nothing beats having both a beautiful environment and a senior with a great personality and openness.

TheCamera'sEye7

Of course, as with all things in professional photography, there’s not much you can do when the outside elements are determined to make their mark. Nicole, a 2015 senior from Owego Free Academy, had to reschedule her session TWICE!

TheCamera'sEye13

The first time, we got rained out – and we’re pretty familiar with rain in the Southern Tier. The second time, Nicole’s flip flop broke! However, fate was conspiring to make us schedule this third session, where everything came together beautifully. Third time’s the charm, right?

TheCamera'sEye

Nicole is yet another one of my seniors who was just so much fun to shoot. She is quiet and composed, and so warm at the same time, which definitely comes across in her senior session photos. It helps that she was ready to roll with anything, and able to brush off both the weather and a wardrobe malfunction 🙂

TheCamera'sEye2

We may be in the last month of summer, but it’s not quite over yet – The Camera’s Eye has many more upcoming senior sessions to shoot before the school year gets into full swing!
